Patrick Schelling shines with fifth place at the Swiss Road Championship after strong teamwork!

It was a hot affair this year’s national championships on the road. Temperatures of almost 40 degrees took a lot of energy. At the same time these national races were held in all European countries.

Here the collected results with Team Vorarlberg Santic participation:

Austria: (Mondsee / 200 KM):
Daniel Geismayr had to let the top group around the new state champion Patrick Konrad (Bora hans-grohe) go on the Postalm with a lot of bad luck. A defective circuit thwarted the dreams of a top placement today. Geismayr is 15th in the heat battle, one place ahead of Maximilian Kuen. Daniel Knapp fights his way across the finish line in 24th place.

Switzerland: (Fischingen / 180 Km)
Sebastian Reichenbach (Groupama FDJ) is the new champion in Switzerland. But before that it was among others the team Vorarlberg Santic, which had a say in the race with Thalmann, Banzer, Stüssi and Schelling. In the final Patrick Schelling sprints from the small group to an excellent fifth place!

Germany: (round course at Sachsenring / 180 KM):
Lukas Meiler was one of the animators of the race and was the leader of the race for a long time. Behind him was Jannik Steimle in the group of favourites. Also the drivers of Bora hans-grohe (Maximilian Schachmann chose himself today as the new German champion). On the final rounds the grains were missed. Only 15 drivers saw the finish. Nevertheless an ambitious race with the knowledge that the form fits towards the Austria Tour.

Patrick Schelling continues sensational at Tour de Suisse!

Somewhat awesome the approach to the second stage from Moutiers to La Norma (121 KM / 3355 altitude). After eight kilometers already the 25-kilometer climb to the Col de la Madeleine (1977m). One of the busiest alpine passes in the Tour de France.

Immediately at the first kilometer the attack of Davide Orrico. “Bomber” does not come away decisively after a flat tire. Two other riders succeed in this endeavor. Gordian Banzer can disengage from the field in the climb to the Col de la Madeleine and crosses the pass in third. The Pro Continental Team Arkea Samsic with her leader in the ranks has to do tracking work and rubs off completely!

Then Colin Stüssi goes … and wins solo!
After leaving the Col de la Madeleine, 70km from the finish, a small group with Colin Stüssi breaks away. At the last mountain of the category 1, the Col de Aussois (1487m) 15 KM before the finish, Stüssi sets the attack and rides solo towards La Norma. Drawn by his efforts, he fights the last three kilometers into the ski resort and celebrates his second win of the season after the GP Vorarlberg!

Stage win, Yellow Jersey and three jerseys – Diaz, Banzer and the whole team TOP top!
Stüssi collects five jerseys and leads the overall ranking of the tour. In addition the mountain jersey. Jose Manuel Diaz Gallego finished on eighth. Gordian Banzer is 23rd, Daniel Geismayr 29th! Thus also currently the best team of the Tour on Mont Blanc.

Now it is time to recover well and gain new strength. Two half-stages are waiting tomorrow. In the morning a fast, in the afternoon a very hard with a good 1800 meters in 45 kilometers.

Also in Switzerland a challenge over 216 kilometers over Flims, Lukmanierpass (1971m) up to the finish to the Gotthard Pass at 2090 meters above sea level. And even today Patrick Schelling shows a world class performance. He is only 1min 20sec behind stage winner Egan Bernal (COL / Ineos) 15th! Thus, he ranks in the overall standings before tomorrow’s time trial in the middle of the top of the sounding names (12th).

Without Roland Thalmann and Patrick Schelling, these are engaged with national team at the Tour de Suisse in the World Tour, the starting situation was a little different than last year. There you have entered the race as a clear co-favorite.

Today’s first stretch from Aix le Bains to Moutiers, at the foot of the ski resorts of Meribel, Tignes and Courchevel, over 145 kilometers and almost 2000 vertical meters was determined by a smaller top group ten kilometers from the finish.

Team Vorarlberg Santic with attack on 3000 meters mark – Geismayr finished at 7th place!
The small slope 3000 meters before the finish was made for the “Vorarlberg” Equipe. There all six (!) riders stretched out in front of the raging field and shattered it in the fast final. The final stage from Traun to Ternberg over 145 kilometers and 2300 vertical meters had it in the first half of the race in itself. The second in overall classement Stephan Rabitsch set a large-scale attack, but as confident as the last few days, countered the team Vorarlberg Santic today this attack!

Eight riders break away from the field – no dangerous for Steimle – optimal race course. Andres Skaarseth (NOR-Uno-X) wins the sprint ahead of Andi Bajc (SLO / Felbermayr-Wels). Jannik Steimle shows his current great form u wins the sprint of the field and is tenth!

Steimle wins his first UCI Tour!
Great the cheers in the finish! Jannik Steimle (23) from Weilheim / Teck (GER) wins the first UCI stage race in 2019 for the team Vorarlberg Santic. It is also his first overall victory of his career!
Second place went to last year’s winner Stephan Rabitsch (Team Felbermayr-Wels) 13 seconds behind after almost 23 hours of driving time. Third is the Norwegian Markus Hoelgaard (Team Uno-X).
Jannik Steimle will also finish second overall in the point’s classification!

The key to success was the collective of the team!

Jannik Steimle after the race: “Today it was a demonstration of power by our team. Everyone has 100% sniffed for this success and given everything. When I was completely finished on Friday, my teammates and staff rebuilt me. I have had a great shape for three weeks – I want to preserve this until the German Championships and the Tour of Austria. I’m really happy and say THANK YOU to all!”

“One of the hardest races of my career. In the meantime I had cramps and problems with the circulation in this heat. But also my competitors – this I noticed. Today I won with my will and I wanted this victory! “Jannik Steimle commented his win over 185 kilometers from Wels to Reichersberg (AUT).

After the first hour of race, a top group has formed around Steimle. In the end, five riders remained in the lead with more than four minutes of lead on the peloton.

Jannik Steimle wins after a total attack!
After the attack by the Norwegian Hoelgaard (Uno-X-Norwegian Devo), the four riders can close the gap. The dangerous curve 50 meters before the finish was to the taste of Steimle. He is the first in the curve and wins. Second Stephan Rabitsch (Felbermayr Simplon Wels).

Steimle also takes the lead in the overall standings (and the points classification) with a 10 second lead on Rabitsch! That means for the next days: a lot of work and drudge for the whole team – and at 35 degrees and more.

56th GP of Canton Aargau UCI 1.HC
It was the expected heavy race in Switzerland. Twelve World Tour and Pro Continentalteams felt at the 56th edition of the Grand Prix of the Canton of Aargau in Gippingen properly on the tooth. In the race over 185 kilometers, the top group was placed in the final. The mass sprint was a prey of Norwegian Alexander Kristoff UAE Emirates ahead of Andrea Pasqualon ITA / Wanty Goubert.

“The fact that we were inferior in the sprint today is obvious, as Jannik Steimle is in action at the Upper Austria Tour. But we brought four riders into the final and showed an active race. Roland Thalmann are finished on 22th place. Lukas Meiler (35.), Gordian Banzer (37.) and Patrick Schelling (41.). “Roli” and Patrick start with the Swiss national team at the Tour de Suisse next week. They are ready. A great ID card for Team Vorarlberg Santic to be also represented on this World Tour Tour!” Thomas Kofler – Team Manager

Patrick Schelling beats Italy’s star Vincenzo Nibali at the GP Lugano UCI 1.1!

It was a really good weekend for Team Vorarlberg Santic. Jannik Steimle made a brilliant end to the criterion in Wartenberg (GER) on yesterday monday. He wins the well-stocked race and presents the team with the next victory. In second place Marcel Franz (GER/CT Radnet Rose) ahead of Fabian Danner (GER/erdgas Schwaben).

Schelling outstanding – shoulder to shoulder with Nibali!
Step by step had to tear class riders at the GP Lugano in Switzerland over 185 kilometers (3500 meters). In the end, four World Tour riders Ulissi, Riabushenko (both UAE Emirates), Matej Mahoric and Vincenzo Nibali (both Bahrain Merida) in front AND swiss Patrick Schelling from Team Vorarlberg Santic!
These also made the victory in the hard final. Ulissi wins ahead of Riabushenko and Mahoric. Patrick Schelling is sensational fourth as the only Continental rider far and wide! Nibali in fifth place. That was cycling with exclamation!
This was a very valuable and impressive result with many riders from the Giro d Italia!

Roland Thalmann’s “big fight” at Rund um Köln UCI 1.1!

YES! Jannik Steimle wins the victory on the final stage in Luxembourg with his “head out tactic”! It was already very hard four stages in Luxembourg with numerous top ten finishes for the team.
Yesterday the final stage over 138 kilometers with destination in Esch sur Alzette. The motto today “all in”! Because the riders wanted to reap the reward of their hard work after the aggressive driving style of the last four days – and behold – Jannik Steimle gives the team and his teammates this victory! In addition, he secured the jersey in the combined rating (most active rider of the tour)!

Jannik Steimle: “Today I wanted to force the victory. At the beginning I had very bad legs, but luckily I came very close behind the first group over the last mountain. Lukas Meiler, Jose Diaz Gallego and Max Kuen drove me through their terrific work to the front and ideally “delivered” where I belong. Third, I came around the corner and turned off my head today. At full risk it was enough to win today! Thanks to my colleagues and the team for this great graduation!

Roland Thalmann with a strong performance at Rund und Köln!
It was and is the big German classic race in the Rhein Main area. Also the 103 (!!) edition over 206 kilometers waited again with a top starter field. First and foremost the local World Tour team BORA hansgrohe, but also Katusha-Alpecin and numerous Pro Continental teams. A “soft” comeback came today from Team Vorarlberg Santic Italo Davide Orrico after his long break (herpes virus infection).

Great fight and good start to the race after a break from “Roli” Thalmann!
After the Tour de Romandie and Tour of the Alps, Schelling, Stüssi and Thalmann set up an altitude training camp. The latter was already well recovered and full of action. Roland Thalmann was in the forefront of the day and had to take an “unpleasant time out” after a technical incident at the circuit and fight back to the World Tour professionals. This cost in the course of the fast race, the necessary grains and must be torn. He comes 17th with the chasing group!
Daniel Federspiel (Ex MTB Eliminator World Champion) gets his first UCI points on the road with rank 25!
