Team Vorarlberg Santic Captain raced sensationally second at the final stage of the 71st Int. Austria Tour – Diaz and Geismayr also great!

The finish today after 117 kilometers and mostly dry weather on the infamous Kitzbühler Horn at 1671 meters. It was the expected big fight for the overall ranking – a true showdown for the 71st crown of the Austrian Tour.

Schelling and Diaz Gallego in the middle of the timpani finale at the Horn!
Steimle, Geismayr and Co. can ideally position Diaz and Schelling when entering the mountain. More and more drivers fall behind. About 15 drivers hit a high speed. First and foremost Dimension Data and Movistar. Zoidl’s attack three kilometres before the finish. The tip splintered. He can’t complete the attack and is put up. Schelling and Diaz still in the top ten!

Schelling goes along with Vlasov’s attack – second place at the Kitzbühler Horn!
On the last kilometer Schelling can follow the attack of the Russian Vlasov (Gazprom Rusvelo) and Gebreigzabhier (Dimension Data). The Eritrean can no longer follow. Schelling fights for the stage victory of this prestigious final. He can almost close the gap and is sensationally second with only one second behind!
PATRICK SCHELLING: “Today I had good legs and was able to keep up the pace. In the final I got closer and closer and wanted to catch Vlasov. It wasn’t quite enough, but I’m very satisfied with my performance today. The round trip was very well occupied – we fought great as a team!

Diaz and Geismayr did also a great job – victory in the daily team classification!
The smart Spaniard Jose Manuel Diaz Gallego can keep up the pace for a long time and finish sixth in the final account. Immediately before Ö-Tour winner Ben Hermanns (BEL/Israel Cycling) and the best Austrian Ricci Zoidl (AUT/CCC). Very strong and satisfied with himself Daniel Geismayr from Dornbirn as 18th! Schelling today outstanding – the team overwhelming and win the team ranking of the day. Colin Stüssi, Gordian Banzer and double stage winner Jannik Steimle also crossed the finish line!
JUNGS – you’ve done really well!

A Tour of Austria like out of a picture book!
It was a tour with passion, heart and emotions and overall “the tour” for the Team Vorarlberg Santic!!! Leaders also put themselves at the service of the others – everyone laid down for the next one. A further reward was the final second place in the team final classification!
A wonderful sports fairy tale in the 21st year for the team from Vorarlberg!

Jannik Steimle wins the fifth stage of the International Austria Cycling Tour UCI 2.1 in the Chamois City Kitzbühel after a defect in the final and an “unbelievable” team performance!

The penultimate stage from Bruck an der Glocknerstraße over the Gerlosspass to Kitzbühel over 162 kilometres included everything that writes exciting but at the same time painful cycling. After catching up with the leading group, Giovanni Visconti (Nerri Sotolli), winner of the stage the day before yesterday, attacks. But he, too, will be put to the test.

Crash of Jannik Steimle – Daniel Geismayr as the tip of the tongue on the scales!
In the mega-fast final towards Kitzbühel, Radio Tour reports Jannik Steimle’s fall at the end of a downhill. He gets away with a material defect and can cushion the fall 15 kilometres before the finish. Other riders fall heavily in the narrow passages. Steimle has to close the gap after the wheel change, but the CCC team turns on the throttle in this phase. Daniel Geismayr, the Vorarlberg MTB Marathon runner-up World Champion 2018, is waiting for his team colleagues and brings him to the field.

Steimle makes team history in the ski metropolis!
On entering Kitzbühel Daniel Geismayr again stretches himself in front of Colin Stüssi and Jannik Steimle. In horrendous speed “Geisi” sets the two on the last kilometer. Behind them again crashes, but all Team Vorarlberg Santic professionals get through with luck. Stüssi extends and puts Steimle in the perfect position for the “Grande Finale”. He opens at 250 meters before the finish and pulls the thing through in front of a great spectator backdrop! The madness of this Tour of Austria continues!
Colin Stüssi tops the dream day with rank nine – a Chapeau for the whole TEAM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Diaz is tenth before Schelling – The Kitzbühler Horn is ALL IN!

Yesterday Daniel Geismayr raced me an incredible 118 km/h from the Teichalm towards the finish line. Today the speedometer needle again showed two-digit values on the fourth stage. The Glockneretappe from Radstadt over the Dientner Sattel up to the Fuscherthörl was short with 103 kilometers, but notorious and crisp with 3253 altitude meters.

Jannik Steimle scored one point in the first sprint classification and then joined the team. At Dientner Sattel all Vorarlberg riders are still with Patrick Schelling and are rushing towards Glockner. On the ascent Gazprom, Movistar and Israel Cycling increase the pace again. Geismayr, Banzer and Stüssi have to tear. Diaz Gallego is the last Mohican to do so. So Schelling is on his own. The Swiss fights great – but also has to drive his pace when Anacona (Movistar), Hermanns (Israel) and O`Connor (Dimension Data) go.

Team Vorarlberg Santic team TOP – Diaz in front of Schelling on rank ten in the middle of the world top! Hermanns wins at Fuscherthörl!
The pros of the big teams are the winners today and “shred” themselves right. Belgian winner Ben Hermanns (Israel Cycling) of the previous year can beat Ben O`Connor (Dimension Data) by a few seconds at Fuscherthörl. Third Anacona (Movistar). From behind, Jose Manuel Diaz Gallego is speeding up. He can catch up with Patrick Schelling again and pulls the captain towards the finish line. Diaz will be a great tenth today. Behind Patrick Schelling on eleven!
Today, the whole team was CONVINCED, because Colin Stüssi is still in 21st place, just behind him as the second best Austrian Daniel Geismayr 24th! Only the World Tour teams Dimension Data and CCC were in the team ranking before the “Ländle Equipe”!

Schelling has not (yet) lit the fire!
“I’m not quite satisfied today, but I’m not disappointed either. There was very little missing to be able to ride with the top favourites. It would have been nice, but the day after tomorrow I want to give everything again at the horn for a jump to the front!

Team Vorarlberg Santic the measure of things in Austria!
This is underlined by the last five days with the prologue victory in Wels, two second places, once rank five, two days in the leader jersey of the Tour, as well as a strong team unity. This despite the retirement of Captain de la Route Roland Thalmann – great performance!

Rest before the storm on the Kitzbühler Horn?
Tomorrow the weather will play an important role in the course of the race. It could be changeable. The Gerlos Pass will be the executioner on the fifth section from Bruck an der Glocknerstraße to Kitzbühel over 162 kilometres and a good 2600 metres of altitude difference. Full throttle or save energy in the direction of the final stage on Friday? We will know more tomorrow – the chain remains tight!

Only Giovanni Visconti foiled Team Vorarlberg Santic victory in Frohnleiten by Colin Stüssi on ultra hard third stage of the 71st Int. Austria Tour UCI 2.1!

After Roland Thalmann had to end the tour due to severe stomach problems, the men around Tour Leader Jannik Steimle started the supposed royal stage from Kirchschlag to Frohnleiten (176 KM / 3752 meters altitude difference) decimated by personnel. There it played fireworks today! The World Tour teams Movistar, Dimension Data and Team CCC crushed the field step by step.

Team Captain Patrick Schelling can hold against!
At the last rough ascent to the Teichalm at 1250 meters there are only 13 riders at the top. Patrick Schelling was the only driver of a Continental team to be able to ride with the favourites. In the downhill, drivers keep rolling up.

Five Team Vorarlberg Santic riders in the first group!
In the final almost fifty riders will compete in the sprint – including five (!) riders from Team Vorarlberg Santic. Colin Stüssi sprints against a great backdrop to the brilliant second place – beaten only by “old master” Giovanni Visconti (ITA-Neri Sottoli Selle Italia). The next podium – simply incredible!
Jose Manuel Diaz Gallego finishes eleventh. Daniel Geismayr becomes (18.), Patrick Schelling (27.), Gordian Banzer (45.). As expected, Jannik Steimle handed over the jersey to the mountain fraction and today he did important team work like all Vorarlberg professionals!

Jonas Koch (CCC Team) leads ahead of Glockner stage – Colin Stüssi in sixth place overall!
The German Jonas Koch (today third) from Riccardo Zoidl’s team takes the lead in the overall standings before the stage up to Fuscherthörl. Colin Stüssi ranks sixth with a gap of eight seconds. Patrick Schelling is 13th at the same time as Zoidl!

No good news for breakfast – Roland Thalmann has to finish Ö-Tour!
The Swiss overall ninth of this year’s Tour of the Alps had to throw up several times during the night and complained of severe nausea and dizziness in the morning. With a heavy heart he decided to quit the tour. Too bad for him and the team – a trump card that you can play. Get well soon to the address of “Roli”!

The monument “Großglockner” is waiting!
After the morning transfer in the Arlberg Express Bus from Rene Hanisch in Styria to the starting point Radstadt, the program continues. The first mountain arrival of this tour leads over 103 kilometres and 3300 altitude metres over the Dientner Sattel up to the Fuscher Thörl am Großglockner. After today’s hammer stage, the “Glocknerkönig” at an altitude of 2500 metres will also have an important word to say about the overall victory!

With second place, Steimle in Wiener Neustadt regains the overall lead of the tour!

And the fairy tale continues! The men from the Vorarlberg team again showed a great team performance today and can ideally position Jannik Steimle in the final on the speed stage from Zwettl to Wiener Neustadt. He finished in a “dream sprint” and only had to admit defeat by centimetre stage winner Tom Devriendt (BEL/Wanty Group). He will thus bring the red “Flyeralarm lead jersey” of the overall standings back into the ranks of Team Vorarlberg Santic!

After only a few kilometres from the starting point in Zwettl, Radio Tour reports a four-man lead. They make their way to the 177 kilometre distant finish in Wiener Neustadt in front of the military academy. It was the expected fast stage after the CCC team around Ricci Zoidl increased the speed. The peloton is bombarding at 60 km/h after the last mountain classification in the direction of the finale!

Thalmann, Geismayr, Banzer, Schelling, Stüssi and Gallego are preparing for the high speed final!
With an extra large ROTOR chainring and a transmission ratio of 54 / 11 the team mechanics Markek Engels and Johannes Kofler and the sports director “Fuchs” Werner Salmen did everything right. Steimle opens the long spurt like the day before very early, and pushes the thing with speed 72 towards the finish line. Only the Belgian Devriendt pushes his way past Steimle in a wafer-thin way. Also all other Team Vorarlberg Santic drivers with the main peloton at the finish (Stüssi 19.), Geismayr (26.).

“Just a dream what’s going on here the days – thanks to the team!”
…..so the only 23 year old Jannik Steimle, who has made himself a more than good name against established professionals at the round trip now. He now leads the overall standings one second ahead of stage winner Devriendt. Emils Liepins (Wallonie Bruxelles) from Latvia came in third with an additional four seconds.
In the points classification Steimle is now already in second place. Team Vorarlberg Santic ranks fifth as the best Austrian team.

The secret royal stage tomorrow?
There was much speculation about tomorrow’s third stage from Kirchschlag to Frohnleiten in Styria. Almost 4000 meters of altitude are waiting for the “Road Trip” through the Bucklige Welt. You won’t win the round trip tomorrow, but you can lose it if the favorites don’t get an optimal day – good luck guys!

Team Vorarlberg Santic does not have to hand over leader jersey – and still happy!

The Spanish rider Carlos Barbero of the World Tour Team Movistar won the opening stage in Freistadt after 138 kilometers in front of the Latvian Emils Liepins (Wallonie-Bruxelles). Jannik Steimle ignited his turbo a little too early and had to settle for fifth place. And yet you are more than happy with the current situation. Steimle is now second in the standings behind Liepins. Thus, the team Vorarlberg Santic can take back tomorrow from the main responsibility. The tour will be long and hard!

Race: Hard day with the jersey on the shoulders!
What tactics choose, what do the other teams and riders do. The responsibility for the management team is therefore more than ever in their own ranks, but with a view to the future. To shoot too many grains before the heavy week would not be smart.

Top group with Brändle!
In rainy weather, after the start of a few riders quickly. Including numerous riders from Austrian teams AND the overall second Matthias Brändle (Israel Cycling). This crashed in the top group by a more than unfortunate situation and must give up the tour injured.

The team Vorarlberg Santic pro`s worked very hard at the first half of the race from the front and takes the responsibility in the field. As Movistar also joins the lead, the gap melts continuously. The group is placed – in the hectic finals Steimle holds again really clean and is strong fifth!

Conclusion: Although jersey must give just, but with a clever tactic style tomorrow is the next chance to try again. Above all, the tour ends on Friday in Kitzbühel.

Team Vorarlberg Santic wins the prologue in Wels ahead of Matthias Brändle by Jannik Steimle and grabs the leading jersey!

The streets in Wels were shaking! Jannik Steimle is responsible for the sensation and wins the prologue over 2,5 kilometers with an hourly average of 55 km/h. Before tomorrow’s first leg he will slip on the red jersey of the overall leader. Steimle wins with one second ahead of his Vorarlberg compatriot Matthias Brändle (Israel Cycling Academy). Thus a secret double victory by Vorarlberg!

Helicopter boy” Jannik Steimle rocks Wels!
Jannik Steimle to his greatest success of his career after his recent overall victory at the Upper Austria Tour:
“Matthias was the favourite time trial specialist for this prologue time trial. Werner Salmen, our sporting director, sent me into the race early in the starting order and set me right. The wind didn’t play into Matthias’ cards in the finale. All the better for me and our team. In any case a mega prelude to the Tour. I am simply overjoyed!

Patrick Schelling with a good start and at the same time with Riccardo Zoidl!
Team captain Patrick Schelling also ranks 22nd, only eight seconds behind, at the front of the group of co-favorites. In the same second he crosses the finish line in downtown Wels with ex-Tour winner Riccardo Zoidl (CCC Team)!

Captain Patrick Schelling travels with a wide-ranging squad for the “Tour depart” to Wels!

Today sports director Werner Salmen has selected the squad for this year’s national tour in Austria. Seven riders will be mobilized for the difficult stages across the Alps. The Equipe is led, which participates already 19 (!) times in the tour by Patrick Schelling. The Swiss shows in very good shape and is looking forward to the tour.

He is assisted by his Confederates Colin Stüssi, Roland Thalmann and Gordian Banzer. The Austrian Daniel Geismayr will also try his man on his third Tour. The squad will be completed by Jose Manuel Diaz Gallego (Spain), as well as Upper Austria Tour winner Jannik Steimle!

Tour of Austria UCI starts in Wels – Final at the Kitzbühler Horn!
One thing is as certain this year as the Amen in prayer. The tour will be decided on the last seven kilometers, if it goes steeply up to the Kitzbühler Horn. Excitement is thus provided on all seven stages. In Wels, the tour starts this Saturday with a time trial 2.5 kilometers. There are varied and difficult stages with the mountain arrivals Großglockner and Kitzbühler Horn.

Team Vorarlberg Santic does not just want to surprise!

“The Tour is occupied qualitatively strong as no longer. There are really big names and numerous professionals who are on the direct jump in the world top to Austria. That makes a statement difficult to a realistic goal setting. We are wide-ranging and have one or more riders on board for every terrain. With a bit of racing luck, we can decide on one or the other stage. We will not hide with warranty. We have never done that, and will be so again this year. On the 12th of July on the horn you can lose everything right before the finish, but also drive forward with a good day. We are ready!” Sport director – Werner Salmen
