25 years and far from tired

Team Vorarlberg ready for the season and big tasks!

With a good portion of motivation and confidence about the coming season, the official team meeting took place in Hotel Firmament in Rankweil. Direttissima it goes on for the 13 professionals to the three-week training camp in Greece with numerous racing missions on Rhodes.

The perfect position with gebioMized and new top material

For two days now, the pros and support staff have been staying at the team headquarters at Radhaus in Rankweil. More than one day was invested for the perfect position on the new BMC bikes (model SLR01). Franziska Schmidt and Niklas Greeven from gebioMized gave Stari, Vermeulen and Co. the tailor-made position on the bikes. Fitting the puzzle together with material and the respective race position is a true craft.

What stands out this year is that never before in its 25-year history has the team been able to rely on such high-quality material. Neither in the bike material and accessories, nor in the clothing from the crown to the sole. Thus ideal conditions for appropriate performance!

Basic work with theory – then on to practice

In order to be able to put the numerous and long-standing partners and sponsors perfectly in the picture, all portrait pictures were made with Native Media. The team pictures were also taken at the Business Hotel Firmament in Rankweil, a team partner.

After individual talks with the professionals and the coaches, the upcoming season was discussed in the official internal team meeting. The seven newcomers were introduced to the procedures accordingly. Likewise the new coworkers in the support staff with Velko Angelov (mechanic) and Bastian Büffel (Physiotherapie).

After the material was handed out, the sporting goals, coupled with the exciting race calendar were discussed. Some races were already fixed, with some high-carat organizers one is shortly conclusion.

One highlight chases the next – Team Vorarlberg solves UCI Pro Series eligibility

Right in Rhodes, the team wants to be at the top of the overall standings at the Aegean Tour and the Tour of Rhodes (both UCI 2.2). With the Austrian Cycling League races, as well as the Tour de du Loire et Cher (FRA/UCI 2.2), one gets the fine tuning for the GP Vorarlberg on April 30th. The home race is a UCI 1.2 race for the first time this year.

Other races on the calendar include Fleche du Sud (LUX/2.2), Int. Oberösterreich Rundfahrt (AUT/2.2), Tour Alsace (FRA/2.2), GP Kanton Aargau (SUI/1.1), and the Tour of Slovenia. A race of the UCI Pro Series category. This license was also acquired for this purpose.

As a major focus of the season, as for all domestic teams, is the hopefully again 72nd Int. Austria Rundfahrt.

As a further major event in addition to numerous UCI races, Team Vorarlberg will start at the Volta a Portugal. The Portugal Tour of the class UCI 2.1 in August leads over twelve (!!) stages. A mammoth project, which the professionals and supervisors will face.

Of course, this year’s seven-part Austrian Cycling League is also an appropriate resolution for Team Vorarlberg, especially for the young guard, to perform.

Thomas Kofler (Team Manager) and Werner Salmen (Sports Director) unisono:

“After the departures of Thalmann, Guerin and Zoidl, it seems quite successful how we could create the squad for this year on a broad basis. Almost all riders have come over the winter in good health and only want one thing: to race. The team will find together well in the three-week joint phase on Rhodes. We were also able to further develop our material technology. Now it’s time to get going. We are not a sprinter team, but we have riders for every terrain, even in classic races we have a lot of confidence this year. Our motto has always been to ride attractively, and to do so as far as possible across the finish line!”
