Alexis Guerin second overall at the 12th International Tour of Upper Austria after gripping last stage – Riccardo Zoidl in fifth place – Team Vorarlberg wins team classification

It was the expected exciting stage from St. Florian up to the 1412 meter Höss in Hinterstoder over 130 kilometers. Also today Team Vorarlberg controlled the field over long distances. Colin Stüssi and Lukas Meiler dictated the pace in the first half of the final climb. From the remaining small group, the strong Austrian Rainer Kepplinger (Hrinkow Advarics) tried it and was able to break away successfully. Alexis Guerin sets off in pursuit but is unable to catch Kepplinger and finishes second in the stage, 19 seconds behind.

In the sprint for third place Riccardo Zoidl loses to the Norwegian Johannes Staune-Mittet (Team Jumbo-Visma), already winner of the GP Vorarlberg on May 1. Ricci Zoidl finishes fifth today.

Second and fifth overall – victory in the team classification!

Alexis Guerin is second this year after his victory last year, Riccardo Zoidl fifth. Lukas Meiler shows with rank 15 the team strength also on paper.

But it was still enough for a victory today. More than deserved, Team Vorarlberg wins the team ranking. Dominik Amann, Daniel Ganahl, Lukas Meiler and Colin Stüssi did a great job for their two leaders and rode the whole tour very much in front – CONGRATS GUYS!

Summary Thomas Kofler – Team Manager: “After last year’s victory, this year we entered the race as clear co-favorites. The whole field was permanently looking at us. The team took this responsibility and worked hard for their captains. Dominik, Daniel, Lukas and Colin did a mega job. Of course it’s a shame that it wasn’t enough for the overall victory, but today someone was simply better. We congratulate Rainer Kepplinger on his strong victory. For the team I am happy that they could stand together on the podium in the team classification today. The guys are also hot for the numerous tours, which then wait in July to October!”

Congratulations to the OK team of the Int. Oberösterreich Rundfahrt around Paul Resch. It was the best advertising for bicycle racing with a professional organization!
