Big Job – Colin Stüssi defends before decisive stage the overall lead at the 84th Volta Portugal UCI 2.1 with success!
Team Vorarlberg – all from the front!
The law of work commitment, if you are in possession of the leader jersey, the seven professionals from Vorarlberg have taken 100%. At the beginning of the eighth stage to Fafe (146 km) attacks were made, all of which were parried by the team. The breakaway group, which subsequently got away, kept Benz, Knolle, Vermeulen, Meiler and Rüegg on a long leash. Then they drive the gap to with all their strength.
Colin Stüssi defends yellow with great style
But the last climb selected the rest of the field. The organizer has chosen a longer, steep gravel section. Only the best get through here. Stüssi has to do it alone from 15 kilometers before the finish – and he succeeded with bravura. He counters all attacks and finishes 14th in the sprint of the first group, thus defending his yellow and the overall lead. Oscar Cabedo loses his top ten position today. His focus “mission yellow”!
Stage winner today the Colombian Adrian Bustamante (Team Kellys). Stüssi continues to lead ahead of Artem Nych (RUS/Glassdrive) and Luis Angel Mate (SPA/Euskatel Euskadi) (both +28sec).
BRAVO Colin – BRAVO TEAM!
Tomorrow FINALE Part 1 before final time trial on Sunday
And tomorrow it will be really hard! The second last stage before the final time trial on Sunday goes over 175 kilometers and almost 4000 meters of altitude. Especially from KM 70 only the legs count. We wish all Team Vorarlberg heroes in Portugal that they have them again tomorrow, after the exertions for many days.
