First stage at Tour of Rhodos UCI 2.2 brings Team Vorarlberg in perfect position!
Intensive work day at first Tour of Rhodes stage puts Team Vorarlberg pros in perfect starting position for overall ranking – Lukas Meiler stage seventh, and overall 2nd!
Lukas Meiler becomes stage seventh on the first stage from Rhodes town to Kalamonas over 138 kilometers, Alexis Guerin follows on eleventh, Riccardo Zoidl becomes 13th at the same time as winner Bendixen (DAN). The strong Dane from the Norwegian Team Coop thus takes over the yellow jersey from Lukas Meiler.
In the overall standings, Lukas Meiler, Alexis Guerin and Riccardo Zoidl are three Team Vorarlberg pros lurking in second to fourth place!
Ideal starting position for the fight for the overall ranking – three trump cards can be played!
Disappointed about the loss of the yellow jersey? “Not at all, because today Team Vorarlberg did all the work in the field. Thalmann, Reutimann u. Co showed their teeth today. In the long climb, this was shredded piece by piece until 16 men remained. The last 25 kilometers were too flat for a solo escape. In the sprint we were inferior to the Dane. But so the main responsibility now lies with Team Coop. With Luki, Ricci and Alexis we currently have three riders with all chances!” Werner Salmen – a more than satisfied sports director
24.03. Prologue Ialyssos 3,8 Km
25.03. Rhodes – Kalamonas 138,5 Km
26.03. Rhodes – Afantou 153,5 Km
27.03. Rhodes – Maritsa 150,2 Km
Second stage – and always nice up and down!
Tomorrow’s second stage with the arrival in Afantou over 153 kilometers is marked with some climbs, nevertheless this stage also holds chances for the sprinters. The last stage on Sunday will be a bit more difficult and will offer suspense until the end for the victory in the overall classification.
