Incredible Hitchcock finale!
With third place, Alexis Guerin saves second place in the overall final of the Tour de Savoie Mont Blanc UCI 2.2!
The prerequisite for the final individual mountain time trial over 22.4 kilometers was clear. The defense of the podium by Alexis Guerin. The hot temperatures and the difficult course from Aix le Bains to Le Revard at 1530 meters resisted vehemently.
No less than Tour de France stage winner Pierre Rolland (B&B Hotels Vital Concept) should be the big winner at the finish. The Frenchman defends his lead with stage two behind winner Mannion (USA / Team Rally) and celebrates the overall victory of this difficult tour!
And luck comes return – Guerin with third place in the final result second!
Alfred Hitchcock couldn’t have written the script more exciting. If the Team Vorarlberg Santic riders repeatedly had defects in the first stages, today the four-leaf clover fluttered onto Alexis Guerin’s shoulders. He finished third, a few seconds behind Rolland. BUT Guerin is 43 seconds faster than van Gils (BEL / Lotto Soudal). Before the stage he still had 42 seconds ahead – that adds up to 1 SECOND ahead of Van Gils in the final calculation!
Team Vorarlberg Santic in third place in the team classification and second in the overall mountain classification = a really good day for the Austrian team!
Colin Stüssi (SUI) is a strong 20th today, just ahead of Jack Burke (CAN/22nd). Roland Thalmann struggles with the heat, but is in good shape. Lukas Meiler and Johannes Schinnagel did a great job!
