OH NO! Virus knocks out most of Team Vorarlberg at Tour of Istanbul UCI 2.2 – Jon Knolle stage tenth on third stage!

Virus lays almost the entire Team Vorarlberg flat before third stage of the Tour of Istanbul UCI 2.2 – Jon Knolle on ten – Laurin Nenning third on the Bazora hill climb

“It has now hit me too…“. After the failure of Moran Vermeulen and Dominik Amann yesterday, Colin Stüssi, Lukas Meiler and Lukas Rüegg also had to put this news in the team chat during the night. For the latter it was a double pity, because instead of his attack on second place or the overall victory of the Tour of Istanbul, only the walk to the toilet remained.

A gastrointestinal virus is rampant in the peloton since the beginning of the Tour. This has hit Team Vorarlberg the hardest with five riders.

Therefore, only Jon Knolle and Pirmin Benz started today’s third stage over 132 kilometers to Beykoz. The last Mohicans acted with an offensive riding style for a good stage placement. Jon Knolle fights his way to tenth place.

Winner the Italian Davide Persico (Team Collpack Ballan).

Werner Salmen – Sports Director: These failures hurt a lot, of course, because thus all chances for the overall classification are gone. We were the most active team and started the most initiatives. Especially for Lukas Rüegg we all feel sorry. He has a good form and wanted to attack again. But it can happen that quickly. Nevertheless, we can complain too much. We haven’t had too many serious crashes and major failures this season. That is not a matter of course in this often very risky sport!”

Tomorrow’s final stage takes the riders across the Great Bosphorus Bridge, directly through the urban area of Istanbul. Should it go into a bunch sprint, the chances for a top result are all there for Jon Knolle.
