Patrick Schelling tames the Kitzbühler Horn!

Team Vorarlberg Santic Captain raced sensationally second at the final stage of the 71st Int. Austria Tour – Diaz and Geismayr also great!

The finish today after 117 kilometers and mostly dry weather on the infamous Kitzbühler Horn at 1671 meters. It was the expected big fight for the overall ranking – a true showdown for the 71st crown of the Austrian Tour.

Schelling and Diaz Gallego in the middle of the timpani finale at the Horn!
Steimle, Geismayr and Co. can ideally position Diaz and Schelling when entering the mountain. More and more drivers fall behind. About 15 drivers hit a high speed. First and foremost Dimension Data and Movistar. Zoidl’s attack three kilometres before the finish. The tip splintered. He can’t complete the attack and is put up. Schelling and Diaz still in the top ten!

Schelling goes along with Vlasov’s attack – second place at the Kitzbühler Horn!
On the last kilometer Schelling can follow the attack of the Russian Vlasov (Gazprom Rusvelo) and Gebreigzabhier (Dimension Data). The Eritrean can no longer follow. Schelling fights for the stage victory of this prestigious final. He can almost close the gap and is sensationally second with only one second behind!
PATRICK SCHELLING: “Today I had good legs and was able to keep up the pace. In the final I got closer and closer and wanted to catch Vlasov. It wasn’t quite enough, but I’m very satisfied with my performance today. The round trip was very well occupied – we fought great as a team!

Diaz and Geismayr did also a great job – victory in the daily team classification!
The smart Spaniard Jose Manuel Diaz Gallego can keep up the pace for a long time and finish sixth in the final account. Immediately before Ö-Tour winner Ben Hermanns (BEL/Israel Cycling) and the best Austrian Ricci Zoidl (AUT/CCC). Very strong and satisfied with himself Daniel Geismayr from Dornbirn as 18th! Schelling today outstanding – the team overwhelming and win the team ranking of the day. Colin Stüssi, Gordian Banzer and double stage winner Jannik Steimle also crossed the finish line!
JUNGS – you’ve done really well!

A Tour of Austria like out of a picture book!
It was a tour with passion, heart and emotions and overall “the tour” for the Team Vorarlberg Santic!!! Leaders also put themselves at the service of the others – everyone laid down for the next one. A further reward was the final second place in the team final classification!
