Sensational! Alexis Guerin wins the final stage and takes the overall victory of the 11th Int. Oberösterreich Rundfahrt – Chapeau!
This last stage from Traun to Hinterstoder over 125 kilometres could not have been more dramatic and exciting. The favourites for the overall victory all waded into the ten kilometre long final climb to 1400 metres.
Alexis Guerin set the pace and won everything after a perfect team performance!
After the bitter catching up on yesterday’s stage a few metres before the finish, the Frenchman put all his power in one basket today and increased the pace step by step. When the overall leader Mikael Schlegel (CZE/Elkov-Kasper) had to let go, only Riccardo Zoidl (AUT/Felbermayr) was with him. Guerin made the decisive attack at 300 metres before the finish and took the victory one second ahead of Zoidl. This one second should also be the difference in the overall ranking. Never before had a Tour been decided by such a narrow margin.
Today Team Vorarlberg was a bit lucky. But this was achieved by a great team performance.
Alexis Guerin: “What the team did today and in the last few days was simply world class. They worked hard and kept me out of the wind. Adria Moreno had a defect at the beginning of the climb today. That messed up our plan for a short time, because he would have set the first attack. But it still worked out and we are all super happy together after this important win!”
Adria Moreno finishes sixth overall. In the team classification, Team Vorarlberg finishes second.
