Tour Alsace kicks off with team time trial
After yesterday evening’s prologue with a 3-man team time trial over 4.3 kilometres, the 18th edition of the Tour Alsace opened. Both starting groups of Team Vorarlberg placed in the middle of the field on the technically demanding course.
Today’s second stage From Europapark Rust to Scherwiller over 160.2 km peppered with three first and second category mountain classifications.
Right at the beginning of the second stage a 10-man leading group with Roland Thalmann from Team Vorarlberg brake away from the rest of the peloton and was not caught by the peloton until the finish.
Roland Thalmann sprints to 1st place in an exciting final!
Roland Thalmann wins the sprint of a five-man group ahead of the Briton Thomas Gloag (Trinity Racing) and the Belgian Lennert Van Eetvelt (Lotto – Sudal U23) and thus takes the lead in the overall classification of the Tour.
Due to his strength on the mountain, Roland was able to collect enough points for the mountain classification and take the lead here as well.
