Team Vorarlberg Santic and Jannik Steimle continue to rock the 71st International Austria Tour!
With second place, Steimle in Wiener Neustadt regains the overall lead of the tour!
And the fairy tale continues! The men from the Vorarlberg team again showed a great team performance today and can ideally position Jannik Steimle in the final on the speed stage from Zwettl to Wiener Neustadt. He finished in a “dream sprint” and only had to admit defeat by centimetre stage winner Tom Devriendt (BEL/Wanty Group). He will thus bring the red “Flyeralarm lead jersey” of the overall standings back into the ranks of Team Vorarlberg Santic!
After only a few kilometres from the starting point in Zwettl, Radio Tour reports a four-man lead. They make their way to the 177 kilometre distant finish in Wiener Neustadt in front of the military academy. It was the expected fast stage after the CCC team around Ricci Zoidl increased the speed. The peloton is bombarding at 60 km/h after the last mountain classification in the direction of the finale!
Thalmann, Geismayr, Banzer, Schelling, Stüssi and Gallego are preparing for the high speed final!
With an extra large ROTOR chainring and a transmission ratio of 54 / 11 the team mechanics Markek Engels and Johannes Kofler and the sports director “Fuchs” Werner Salmen did everything right. Steimle opens the long spurt like the day before very early, and pushes the thing with speed 72 towards the finish line. Only the Belgian Devriendt pushes his way past Steimle in a wafer-thin way. Also all other Team Vorarlberg Santic drivers with the main peloton at the finish (Stüssi 19.), Geismayr (26.).
“Just a dream what’s going on here the days – thanks to the team!”
…..so the only 23 year old Jannik Steimle, who has made himself a more than good name against established professionals at the round trip now. He now leads the overall standings one second ahead of stage winner Devriendt. Emils Liepins (Wallonie Bruxelles) from Latvia came in third with an additional four seconds.
In the points classification Steimle is now already in second place. Team Vorarlberg Santic ranks fifth as the best Austrian team.
