Very close to the podium!
Strong! Fourth and fifth place for Rüegg and Berlin on last stage and overall at South Aegean Tour UCI 2.2 – Team Vorarlberg second best team at first tour of the season
The Team Vorarlberg riders must have worked well over the winter! At the two-day tour in Rhodes, the men in yellow and black were responsible for setting the pace in the peloton. With fourth place by Lukas Rüegg and fifth by Antoine Berlin on today’s 168.8 kilometer stage from Rhodes City to Salakos, they narrowly missed the podium. Rüegg also finished fourth overall, ahead of team newcomer Berlin, the first Monegasque in team history.
Overall winner the Czech Otruba (ATT-Invest) ahead of today’s stage winner Cedric Christophersen (DAN / Team Coop).
Vermeulen stopped only by defect – podium in the team classification with second place!
Moran Vermeulen showed a strong performance in today’s rainy stage (12 degrees), just like the other Vorarlberg pros. He was in the leading group with chances to win. A bike change ruined this prospect when Stüssi, Meiler and Co. with the peloton brought this group back again. In the final ranking they could be more than satisfied with second place in the team ranking.
The race continues next Saturday with the GP Rhodes UCI 1.2. Until then numerous training sessions and tactical exercises are on the program.
